Are They Really Seekers?

Much is being made today by churches changing to a "seeker-friendly" model. But who are these seekers they are trying to be friendly towards and does the Bible support this view?

The people referred to as being "seekers" are those who are not Christians. They have no religious affiliation, and in the "seeker_friendly" movement the churches try to gear their services so that these lost people will feel comfortable. This is done with the music used in worship, the translations of the Bible used, and how the preacher preachers. Everything to please the lost person, who supposedly, on their own, is seeking after God.

What though, does the bible say about this? For this article, I am using the Holman Christian Standard Bible.

there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. ~ Romans 3:11

Hhhmmm, this is interesting, God's word tells us that there is no one who seeks after God.

We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the LORD has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.~ Isaiah 53:6

Keep the above verse in mind as we look at the following words from the real Seeker, the Lord Jesus Christ:

What do you think? If a man has 100 sheep, and one of them goes astray, won't he leave the 99 on the hillside and go and search for the stray? ~ Matthew 18:12

Then there are these words from the lips of the Savior:

For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save the lost. ~ Luke 19:10

So far, God's word is not looking good for those who hold to the "seeker" philosopy. It is clear that the lost are not seeking after God, but that it is God who is seeking after them. We (people) are the ones who went astray, and us Christians can rejoice that we are were once lost but are now found, while praying for those who are lost, to one day also be listed among the found, or as we could rightly say; the saved.

Christian, it is important we keep ouor terms clear and Biblical. This will go a long way in avoiding confusion, and will bring great glory to our God.

Christian, it is you now who is the seeker. We are commanded to go into all the world with the Gospel. We are to be seeking the lost to share with them how they to can be saved by simply placing their trust in Jesus Christ alone by faith alone.

Let's get to seeking.
